Birth Stories with JMH Photography

A few months ago, I had the life changing opportunity to shoot the birth of a perfect little girl. This was the first opportunity JMH Photography had to capture a birth, and I cannot imagine a more perfect couple to experience this with. These wonderful clients have now become great friends of ours. We have been blessed to capture Jess and Jai throughout their engagement, on their wedding day, when they announced they were pregnant, during their pregnancy, and now at the birth of their beautiful girl Laila. Originally, the plan was that Justin would capture the entire birth but little Laila had different plans; she wanted Mommy and Daddy to go through a few long days of labor, which resulted in me taking over for all of the best parts.

Laila was born under the light of the supermoon, which may speak a little to the intense, out of this world experience Jess and Jai had during labor. Our dear friends were eagerly preparing for a flawless natural birth, but Laila had another thing in mind. I kept telling them that she was not being stubborn during the 32 plus hours of labor but that she was being cautious and well-thought out with her plan for her arrival.

After this rock star Mama worked so hard for days and hours, the medical staff decided it was in the best interest of Momma and baby to have a C-section. When Laila was born at 1:13 am on November 15th, 2016, she was perfectly positioned as a "Star Gazer" baby, which didn't allow for labor to progress as easily as planned. I find it perfect that on the night of the supermoon, our friends gave birth to their perfect little stargazer.

Jess and Jai, I cannot thank you enough for including us on this incredible journey. Being a part of your family as it grows and being able to capture it blesses us more than we can express. Love you guys so much.

With this being said, birth photography has always been something I have felt called to pursue and focus on in the future of my personal career with JMH Photography. I am very passionate about the fact that birth is a life changing beautiful experience that forever changes a family in the most exciting way. Birth for every family can look different, whether it is a natural birth at home or in the hospital, medically assisted birth, or C-section, I would be honored to capture these perfect memorable moments that are meant to treasure forever. I can personally tell you that the moment you hold your baby for the first time is irreplaceable, and a photo that catches that emotional memory for a new mom and dad is worth a million words.

Justin and I are blessed to announce not only that we will be adding Birth Photography Packages starting this spring, but that we are excited to announce that I will be leaving my position with Child Life at Helen DeVos Children's Hospital to focus not only on spending more time with my family, but to also pursue the growth of our goals professionally. Our packages will be listed at the bottom of this post and on our investment page.

We are so excited for all of these new adventures with JMH and our family and to share all of these adventures with you all.
